Because of its rocky beach, the remote southeastern coast of the Baltic Sea island was rarely visited by other vacationers and offered the artist the ideal peace and seclusion for drawing nudes in the open air.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the numerous works created there, Kirchner often staged Fehmarn as a South Seas paradise. In the present lithograph, it is above all the lines drawn with sovereign sweep that define the figures within the nature reduced to signs. Kirchner presumably translated a drawing into the print only later in his Berlin studio, since no lithographic stone was available to him on Fehmarn.
